What this tool does
HEX to CMYK is a two-stage calculation: decode the HEX value to RGB, then estimate CMYK percentages mathematically. It is convenient for reference but not a substitute for profile-aware prepress conversion.
Enter the values in the calculator above and choose Calculate. The calculation runs in your browser; the inputs are not intentionally sent to a Colormapped application server.
How it works
- Decode #RRGGBB into integer RGB channels.
- Normalize RGB to 0–1.
- Calculate the shared black component K.
- Calculate C, M, and Y after accounting for K, then round to percentages.
Worked example
Input
#5B5CF0Output
cmyk(62% 62% 0% 6%)The output is a generic mathematical approximation and intentionally carries no claim about a specific printer, ink set, or paper.
When to use it
- Get a quick CMYK reference from a web color.
- Discuss a rough print direction before a profile is chosen.
- Compare digital brand colors with approximate process-color components.
Accuracy and limits
- Do not use the result as a press-ready specification when color accuracy matters.
- Gamut, profiles, rendering intent, paper, and ink behavior can materially change production values.
